The Mysterious Notebook Of Murder~Chapter I

"Ma-att. You have a cru-ush! " Autumn laughed and handed him the goggles.

Matt blushed. "Just because Mello is my friend doesn't mean I'm in love with him," he hissed, putting them on.

Liz laughed and grabbed Matt's wrist. "Let's go," she said, heading off in the direction Mello had gone in.

"Don't get defensive, Matt."

Matt rolled his eyes and allowed himself to be dragged by Liz in the direction Mello had been taken.

Oliver sprang to Liz's side, sniffing the ground for traces of Mello. As soon as he had caught a scent, he let out a low grumble and began to charge ahead, Liz and Matt running after him.

"Shit. Great, I don't want them following me everywhere." Mello mumbled to himself as he ran faster, down the mountain.

Liz noticed the slope getting steeper, and her eyes widened as she tried to stop, but it was to no avail. She skidded, and then began to tumble down the mountain, followed by Matt. Oliver was the only one who kept his footing.

Mello eventually reached the bottom, noticing the two serial killers looking around for any signs of life. "Shit....." he mumbled once more before seeing Liz and Matt tumbling down the mountain.

The two finally stopped, slamming against a tree, Matt ending up on top of Liz. "Uh...my head...SHIT! GET THE FUCK OFF ME!" Liz screamed, noticing Matt on top of her, and she kicked him off. He rolled off her, grasping his stomach and coughing. "Ow, geez, that hurt," he muttered.

"Shut up, both of you!" He pointed the gun at both of them and threatened to shoot. "They're over there! So shut the fuck up!" he whispered urgently.

Matt glared at Liz, and in response she kicked him in the leg. He let out a whimper but otherwise remained silent. Oliver padded over and sat beside Liz, licking the dirt from her neck and face.

Beyond's face flickered upward, looking around before walking off with B. Her sword was drawn, ready to attack.

"They're gone." Mello sighed out, putting the gun back in his pants.

Liz sat up, shaking her hair, dirt and some rocks coming out of it. "Fuck this curly hair, always catching stuff. I'd straighten it if I could and not make it look horrible," she fumed, running her fingers through her unmanageable hair.

"Lucky me, I have short hair." Matt sat up, rubbing the spot on his leg where Liz had kicked him. "That's gonna leave a mark..." he muttered.

"Then straighten it dumb ass." Mello muttered, re-loading the pistol and testing it out.

"I can't! It'll dry my hair out and make it all cracked and icky." she sniffed.

"Mello, why'd you choose a time like this to run off?" Matt asked, sitting up.

"Why the hell do you think? We've got two killers on the loose! God, use your damn common sense Matt!" Mello was so pissed off by now, his face started to turn a bright red.

"Sorry," Matt sighed and looked down. "We should go back for Jonathan and Autumn, don't you think?" he asked.

"Yeah, we should," Liz said, jumping up.

"They can come down, and since they're Liz's friends, she's gonna go get them. I'm gonna go track them down again."

Matt shook himself, a few puffs of dirt coming from his vest and shirt. "Let me come with you...you might not be able to face them both alone." he said.

"Better take his advice, Mello," Liz warned. "We can't have anything happening to you--you're important in my mission." she turned and began to go back up the slope, Oliver following her.

"Fine. Here." Mello handed Liz his extra gun for her protection.

Liz took it and shoved it under her belt. "I'll keep this handy...doubt I'll have to use it though," she murmured, heading off.

Matt's dark eyes watched her go, and he shoved both hands in his pockets, the cool feeling of the metal in his gun pressing up against his ribcage making him feel safe.

"What the hell is up with you lately, Matt? You've been like...quieter."

"Quieter?" Matt looked at Mello. "What do you mean?" he asked, fiddling with the lint at the bottom of his pockets.

"Well, you've been playing your games less often than normal and you've rarely talked."
