Death Note- Another Note Chapter 2

"Hurry up Liz..." Mello whined softly, pacing again.

Standing outside, Liz drew energy from inside herself, and then was engulfed in a beam of golden light. Once in the light, she thought of home, her rescue shelter, and she disappeared, the light swallowing her whole.

"It should've happened to me..." Mello repeated to himself over and over, guilt spreading throughout his veins.

It didn't take long, only a few minutes it seemed before she reappeared, keeping the portal open for six newcoming big cats, a cougar, an Asian lion, an African lioness, a snow leopard, a black panther, and a wheelchaired cheetah. The cheetah was pulling a sled with a long ropelike cord inside of it, and all of the cats were wearing harnesses.

"...The hell?" The dirty blonde's head poked outside, seeing something he never saw before.

"Good girl, Anya," Liz murmured, unhooking the harness from the cat's back. Anya, the cheetah gave her a soft face-licking, before going to stand with the other cats, who had padded over to sniff Mello.

Mello stepped backwards, looking at the cats. "Got anymore?" He asked Liz sarcastically. "His condition was slightly better. He talked to me. But then he started hallucinating from what I can tell."

"Oh, I have lots more. At the shelter, there are about 850." Liz nodded enthusiastically. "I love every one of them. Anyway, the hallucinations aren't good. That means he's already in the third stage. In the fourth stage, he'll act rabid and feed off of his own blood...or yours, if he can get to you. He won't be able to move, but he'll snap at anything that comes close. You'll have to keep Shasta away from him and everything else, but especially the dog since she loves him so much. If he bites anything, you have three days to go and get every last trace of the saliva away from the bite area, or else the bite victim will have the disease as well. In the fifth stage, he will go completely silent and it will be as if he is dead, except his eyes will remain open and change back to their normal color. In the sixth stage, his eyes will turn a light orange-red and he will be begging to be killed. In the seventh is when they go insane and try to kill themselves in any way. That is when the victim usually dies." Liz sighed heavily. "All this happening in about...3 months."

Mello's eyes widened. "I just want to get the medicine and treat him. In case you haven't noticed, his screams are pretty damn loud." He recalled, remembering when it started storming and Matt freaked. "This is worse than when I saw that video of him being shot to death. I just need him to live, because he's been my best friend since we were like, 5 years old. And my only friend."

"Yes, yes, I'll get the medicine. But I can't leave today. The move between dementions has weakened both me and the team, they'll need at least 24 hours of rest, then I need to check them over to make sure nothing has happened in the period of time I've been gone. For them, it's only been seven minutes since I've left, but its been a while since the team actually did anything, so I need to make sure their pulling is up to par and they still remember what to do."

"If it saves Matt, fine. But you're feeding them, because I'm running outta food again."

"I know that," Liz scoffed as she unloaded what looked to be a half a ton of food from the sled Anya was pulling and a backpack. "Onward, march!" Liz announced, going into the house, the cats following her.

"Now that's just weird." Mello bursted out into laughter, catching his breath before not laughing again.

Liz rolled her eyes, and the cats ran over to inspect Mello, sniffing all over him and rubbing their heads against his legs.

Mello started itching his legs. "Get these things offa me!"

"Heel!" she called, and all of the cats raced to her side, including Oliver. "Whats the problem? Allergic to cats?"

"I don't think so, just kinda itchy."

Liz shrugged and got out big food bowls for each of the cats and put them down, emptying food for all of them. The cats lined up in front of their bowls and began hungrily eating. "I guess I should introduce you now. That beautiful cougar girl over there is Annie, Mayson is the big Asian lion, Kenya is the African lioness, Jekyll is the albino snow leopard, Carmon is the black panther, and Anya is the cheetah in the wheelchair."

"Why is there a cat in a wheelchair?"

Liz got a soft look on her face. "I rescued her from an abusive owner who beat her so bad with a baseball bat it paralyzed her from the waist down. I put her in a wheelchair, and she loves it. Also, she can pull 1,000 pounds I found, using only her front legs. Pretty amazing, huh?" she said.

"Yeah, it's pretty amazing."

Liz rubbed the cat's shoulders. "In fact, all of these cats are rescued. Annie was rescued when she was a cub, she lived in an illegal breeder's house. Mayson was rescued from a roadside zoo, Kenya was rescued after her mother was killed by poachers, Jekyll was saved from the circus, Carmon was rescued from two hunters who had shot him, and I already told you about Anya."

"I honestly didn't need a backup story."

"Well sor-ry." Liz petted each of the cats in turn, before her eyes grew heavy. "Well, I'm off to bed. Travelling weakens me." she proceeded to curl up on the couch and drift off to sleep.
